Who do you turn to when you have a crime to report? Or an incident you want to make the authorities aware of? Please follow the guide below to report anything that happens in your local area.
Call 999 ONLY if it's an emergency that is happening now and you need Police to attend the incident or crime immediately, someone suspected of a crime is nearby, when there is danger to life or when violence is being used or threatened.
Call 101 - the Police non-emergency number - when you want to contact your local police force. This number is for use when it's less urgent than a 999 call for example if: your car has been stolen, property has been damaged, there is drug dealing in your neighbourhood etc. 101 can also be used to pass on information about a crime in your area.
Use the Northamptonshire Police Web Page (www.northants.police.uk) to report crime, antisocial behaviour, fraud, lost or stolen vehicles, road traffic incidents, missing persons, civil disputes and to tell the police about possible terrorist activity, filming projects that you may need a police presence for and an event or procession.
Crimestoppers is a 100% anonymous service that you can utilise to report any crime related activity. There are two ways to pass information to Crimestoppers, either by phone on 0800 555 111 and online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
Crimestoppers is not the Police, they are an independent company who promise to never pass on your details. Nobody will know you have helped them, and your computer or phone number cannot be traced or saved. Please remember that in an emergency you must still call 999, as Crimestoppers are only to be utilised as a way to pass on information.
Action Fraud is the UK's national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime and you can approach them if you have been scammed, defrauded or are experiencing cybercrime. If you need to report something or are a business, charity or other organisation which is suffering a live cyber attack, please call 0300 123 2040 immediately. The phone line is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Action Fraud online reporting tool is at www.actionfraud.police.uk. If you are unsure whether a call is genuine, call the team on 0300 123 2040. Action Fraud will not call you unless you have requested them to.
Languages - If you do not speak English, they run a service for you to make your fraud report in your language.
Neighbourhood Alerts - Have you signed up to the new Northamptonshire Neighbourhood Alert system? It allows you to be updated on crime happening in your area and is fully customisable, so you can choose the area and which particular incidents you'd like to be updated on.
