Remembrance Sunday wreath laying

PC chair laying wreath at memorial

The service of Remembrance and wreath laying on Remembrance Sunday at St John the Baptist church. Wreaths were laid at the Cross of Sorrow by Cllr Andrew Seaman, Chair of the Parish Council and by Peggy Dreads, Churchwarden, and at the 305th BG(H) memorial on the church tower by Master Sergeant Matt Miller, USAF.

A scaled down and socially distanced laying of the wreaths at the Cross of Sorrow (UK) and Tower memorial (US) in St Johns churchyard for Remembrance Sunday

Prayers were spoken by Rev Michelle. Cllr Andrew Seaman (Parish Council Chair), Arthur Wright (Churchwarden) and Ian White (305th BGMA rep) laid their wreaths and Alex played the last post.

Re-assembling the Cross of Sorrow

Re-assembling the Cross of Sorrow

Work is underway to reassemble the restored Cross of Sorrow memorial in the churchyard in time for Remembrance Sunday. The restoration has been funded by public appeal of the parishioners organised by the Parish Council.

VE Day 75 Years

VE Day 75 Years

A very low key VE Day 75 years celebrations than had originally been planned before the Covid-19 outbreak. Limited to bunting and observing of the 2 minutes silence. The Tribute to the Fallen was read by Rev Michelle Dalliston and the Exhortation by Cllr Jenny Harwood. All observing social distancing.

Memorial plaque gilded for the 100 years Remembrance Service

Memorial plaque gilded for the 100 years Remembrance Service

As part of the 100 years (1918-2018) Remembrance Service preparations for 11th November, the Parish Council has arranged for the memorial plaque listing the names of the fallen to be gilded.

The Cross of Sorrow was erected by public subscription in 1920, whilst the plaque was installed by the Council in 1995, as by then the names were no longer legible on the Cross.

Successful applicantion for 5 silhouettes for 1918-2018 event.

The Parish Council has been successful in getting an award of 5 silhouettes from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund for the 1918-2018 (100 years) remembrance service on Sunday 11th November 2018.

305th Air Mobility Wing honours the 305th BG(H)

305th Air Mobility Wing honours the 305th BG(H)

A crew lead by Capt Mike Meeks, 32nd Air Refuelling Squadron, 305th AMW from McGuire AFB, NJ, USA, stopped over in England to attend the Remembrance Service, and laid a wreath at the Church Tower memorial to the 305th BG(H).

The wreath layer was M/Sgt Jeremy Becnel, who is a Senior Boom Operator.

Remembering the fallen

Remembering the fallen

The Annual Service of Remembrance will take place on Sunday 12th November. The normal church communion service will start at 9:00 and at approx. 9:50 move outside to the Churchyard.

The act of Remembrance will take place by the Cross of Sorrow, where the minute's silence will be held. Wreaths will then be laid at the cross, and at the 305th memorial at the base of the church tower.
