Remembering the fallen

On the 31st July 1917, Private Harry Morris of the 1st Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, died on the first day of the third Battle of Ypres (Battle of Passchendaele) aged 19. He was a son of Alfred & Emma Morris of Water Yard, Chelveston.

He had enlisted in Kettering in February 1917 and arrived in France on the 15th May 1917. His body was never recovered and he is listed amongst the missing on the Menin Gate memorial, Ypres.

The image shows him at Rushden railway station, waiting to be sent to his training depot.
